FIRST DAY AT MADEIRA

On April 31, 2022, we landed at Madeira. After arriving at the hotel, we spend the afternoon walking around Funchal. It is a very tropical and warm place. The ocean is incredibly beautiful. The next picture is the view from our hotel balcony .

FREE DAY

1.05.2022

Here is the Cable car we visited the next day. It goes from the center of the town all the way up to Monte. It goes very high and the view is amazing. You can see the whole Funchal, the ocean, the nature and its really worth seeing it.

CATAMARAN TRIP

The journey with the catamaran was very long - around 3 hours. But it was interesting, because we had the opportunity to see dolphins and to swim in the ocean. We had a close view to the vulcanic island, like you can see in the pictures bellow.

CABLE CAR

So, on this day we went to the botanic garden in Madeira and in the museum inside the garden. It was incredibly beautiful but too big to see it all in just one day. Then we enjoyed the cable car and arrived in Monte. We had a walk around the town and visited the Toboggan runs and some of the churches in town. When we get back to Funchal we went to the Market so we could enjoy buying some souvenirs from there. Then we had some free time in Funchal.

SANTANA

Pico do Ariero

The beauty of Santana. At first, we tried to go to Pico do Arieiro, but the weather was too foggy and rainy, and we couldn't see the mountaintop. Instead we saw a panorama of the mountains from one of the terrace. Then we travelled to Santana, and there we were able to see the traditional triangle houses of that region. And also on the first picture of this section, you can see the plant named Strelitzia, which is growing only on this island.

QUINTA DAS CRUZES

On the last day from our Erasmus + program we visited the museum - Quinta das Cruzes. It had an amazing paintings from different eras. And then we went to the Quinta da Magnolia, this is a museum and a restaurant in one, with a large and nice garden. I`m giving this place a 10 from 10 - it was incredibly beautiful and the food served at the restaurant was the best I’ve tasted in Madeira. It was a dish with rice, vegetables and curry, but it was really good cooked. So if you decide to go to Funchal, you should definitely visit this place.

The Autonomous Region of Madeira motto, Das Ilhas as Mais Belas e Livres, is Portuguese for "Of all islands, the most beautiful and free".
